Climatop

CLIMATOP and CLIMATOP plus An effort is visible at different levels to increase what is defined as the sixth fuel: energy saving. The thermal transmittance values of all our windows are substantially below the values established for Italian climate areas (see page 19). In particular, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano decided to establish even stricter building regulations and launched the CasaClima system, which sets 3 thresholds for thermal transmittance values:

  • CASACLIMA B – energy demand below 50 kw/m2a / 5-litre house
  • CASACLIMA A – energy demand below 30 kw/m2a / 3-litre house
  • CASACLIMA ORO – energy demand below 10 kw/m2a / 1-litre house

If we consider that ‘5-3-1 litre house’ means that domestic heating will need 5, 3 or 1 litres of fuel oil based on the class (or m3 of gas per m2) each year and that average consumption for traditionally-built houses ranges between 20 and 30 litres or m3 of gas per m2, the ecological and economical impact of this project is evident. In addition, it is clear that these windows would play an important role in the new house construction system. We contribute to energy saving by designing and producing the 92 m/m Climatop model that meets CasaClima “A” and 92 m/m Climatop Plus model with special interposed insulating material allowing such performances that the thermal transmittance value meets the requirements for the CasaClima Oro system. The following pages show standard “U” values for building in accordance with CasaClima.

Calculations on an average house housing three people and located in the climate area “E” (for instance the Lombard Prealps and plain) showed that annual saving on heating ranged between €400 and €600. If we multiply this amount by the average life of a window (30-40 years) and if we consider the increase in the price of heating fuels over time, the amount saved is substantial. As a result, it is clear that the higher cost incurred to purchase Climatop windows is offset in the first 2-3 operating years.
